Germination
Sow indoors 6-8 weeks before last expected frost. Sow directly after danger of frost has passed. Indoors, sow 2-3mm deep into moist, well-drained seed compost. Ideal temp. 15-20°C. Germination takes 2-3 weeks approx. Transplant seedlings outside after danger of frost has passed. Directly, sow into prepared soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Keep moist, seedlings should emerge in 3-4 weeks. Thin as required.

This is a tender perennial often grown as an annual in the UK. Can be perennial if grown in a warm, frost-free location. Best grown as an annual in the UK. If sown directly water frequently until seedlings are well grown. Prefers a well-drained neutral or acidic soil in full sun. Requires little attention. Will not tolerate frost. May require staking.
Cultivation
Deadhead regularly to extend the flowering window. Will be cut down by frost. If you wish to harvest seed allow the seedheads to dry on the plant then collect seed and store for sowing next spring.
