Germination

Sow direct. Sow thinly into a drill in a well prepared seedbed 15mm deep, drills 30cm apart. Transplant or thin approx. 5 weeks later when seedlings have 4-5 leaves. Handle carefully as not to disturb the roots. Plant 30cm apart. Prefers rich firm soil with plenty of well-rotted manure dug in.

Growing

Once transplanted keep well watered. Cover with netting or fleece to prevent bird or insect attacks. Requires little attention.

Cultivation

Cut off the main head to promote plenty of side shoots. Do not allow to dry out. Harvest main heads from Sep, when they are approx. 10cm diameter. Leave the plant in the ground to allow side shoots to develop. Cut and come again variety.
