Germination
Sow under glass. Sow seeds thinly onto the surface of moist well-drained seed compost, press in lightly. Do not cover with soil, light is needed for germination. Cover with glass or clear plastic and place in a cold frame at 5-18°C. Keep soil moist at all times. Germination takes 14-28 days but can be erratic and take several months. Once germinated admit air to prevent damping off. When large enough to handle transplant seedlings to 8cm pots and grow on. Keep under glass for the first winter. Plant out the following spring when danger of frost has passed with 30cm spacing.
Growing
Easy to grow. Prefers a moist well-drained soil in sun to partial shade. Do not allow roots to get too wet or very dry. Water when required but allow soil to dry out in between watering's. Feed monthly if desired.
Cultivation
Cut back after flowering to encourage further blooms and to prevent self-seeding. Established clumps can be divided in spring.
