Germination
Sow indoors Jan-Mar, or in autumn. Direct sow from March. Indoors, Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Cover with 4mm vermiculite. Ideal temp. 15-20°C. Germination takes 2 weeks approx. Germination can be variable if seedlings are not visible in 4 week cold stratify. Move to 4°C for 4 weeks then remove to warmth for germination. Transplant clumps of seedlings when large enough to handle to 1L pots. Acclimatise and plant out in summer. Directly, sow 30mm deep in rows 90cm apart with 30cm spacing. Germination is weather dependant and will vary. Thin to desired spacing.
Growing
Prefers any moist, well-drained fertile soil in full sun. Will not tolerate excessive winter wet. Try to keep soil consistently moist rather than extremes of wet and dry.
Cultivation
In spring remove dead foliage, cut back old foliage to 10cm as new growth emerges. Divide established clumps in Apr-Jun. to maintain plant vigour.
