Germination
Sow indoors. Surface sow onto moist well-drained seed compost. Lightly cover seed with soil. Propagate 18-20°C. Germination takes 21-30 days. Germination can be irregular and take much longer. If germination does not occur cold stratify. Move to 4°C for 2-4 weeks and then return to warmth for germination. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed with 60cm spacing.
Growing
Prefers ordinary well-drained soil in full sun. If the soil is too rich the plants will become floppy. Requires little attention.
Cultivation
Deadhead to prolong flowering window. At the end of the flowering season allow seedheads to remain for the birds to enjoy. Cut back to the ground in winter. Divide every 2-3 years to maintain plant vigour.
