Germination
Sow indoors at any time. Sow 2mm deep into moist, well-drained seed compost which is in a deep pot. Place in a propagator. Ideal temp. 20-24°C. Germination takes 20-25 days but can be erratic taking much longer. Once germinated admit air and grow on in cooler conditions allowing the bulb to form. Allow to grow on under glass for the first couple of years, planting out in the 3rd season.
Growing
Prefers a fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil in full sun. Plant bulb, when formed 15cm deep. Prefers a sheltered location. Water well Apr-Oct. Mulch well in winter to offer protection from cold.
Cultivation
Propagate by seed or via offsets taken in spring. Offer frost-free protection in winter or pot sow and bring inside or lift the bulbs in autumn and replant in spring. Pruning not required, just remove dead leaves, faded flower heads may be removed.
