Geum rivale

Germination

Sow under glass in spring or autumn or direct in autumn. Sow indoors onto moist but not wet seed compost. Cover seeds thinly with fine soil. Ideal temp. 18-22°C. Germination takes 21-28 days. If germination does not occur cold stratify. Move seeds to -4°C-+4°C for 2-4 weeks. then reintroduce heat. Once germinated grow on in cooler conditions. Once seedlings are large enough to handle transplant to 8cm pots. Planting in autumn and overwintering in a cold frame removes the need for the cold stratification.

Growing

Prefers a slow draining or wet soil in full sun or partial shade. Very easy to grow.

Cultivation

Deadhead spent flowers to encourage further flowering. Divide every 3-4 years to maintain plant vigour.
