Germination

Sow under glass at any time an unheated greenhouse is ideal. Sow directly in spring as soon as the ground can be worked. Under glass sow into modules, surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover the seed with a sprinkling of soil. Germination should be rapid. Once germinated these hardy plants can be moved to their final position in the garden. Fast growing. Successional sow for a continuous supply of foliage for cutting. Harvest as soon as the seed heads have formed all the way to the tip.

Growing

Prefers any moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Easy to care for. May require a framework or netting to grow through which should offer support to the fast growing stems. If using for cutting or bouquets harvest once the seed heads have reached all the way to the tip of the stem. Once cut the stems should be placed in water. if drying hang the stems upside down in a cool, dry place.

Cultivation

Will self-seed freely.
