Germination
Sow indoors Jan-July. Sow seed 10mm deep into moist, well-drained seed compost in trays. Indoor sowing can be planted out when they have 3-4 true leaves. Sow directly Mar-Aug after danger of frost has passed. Directly, sow seed thinly 10mm deep in drills 30cm apart. Ideal Germination temp. 10-18°C. Germination takes 7-14 days. Successional sow at 14 day intervals.
Growing
Keep soil moist and cool. Watering is essential. Dry soil will cause the plants to produce flowers. Perfect temp. for growth 16-18°C.
Cultivation
The root system is shallow and compact so benefits from a compost side dressing. Aphids can be a problem, companion plant with Nasturtiums to help prevent this.
