Germination
Sow indoors at any time, sow directly spring-autumn. Surface sow onto moist well-drained seed compost. Just cover with a sprinkling of soil. Water from the base of the tray only. Propagate. Ideal temp. 18-22°C. Germination takes 15-30 days approx. Transplant seedlings when they have a set of true leaves to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out when danger of frost has passed with 50cm spacing. For direct sowing surface sow onto prepared soil that has been raked to a fine tilth, gently rake in seeds. Water during dry periods until germination occurs.
Growing
Prefers any consistently moist soil in full sun. Ideal for river and pond margins or bog gardens.
Cultivation
Deadhead after flowering to prevent self-seeding. Top growth dies down for winter and should be cut back to ground level. If desired established clumps can be divided in autumn or spring.
