Germination

Sow indoors 5-8 weeks before last expected frost. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Ideal temp. 20°C. for 3-4weeks. If germination does not occur cold stratify. Move to -4-+4°C. for 2-4 weeks, a fridge is ideal, then return to warmth, 18°C. for germination. Germination takes 10-90 days approx. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.

Growing

Prefers any fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Offer protection from excessive winter wet with a dry mulch.

Cultivation

Remove dead foliage and spent flower stems in spring. Propagate by seed or by division in spring.
