Germination
Sow indoors in spring or autumn. Use a plug type seed tray. Surface sow, 5 seeds per cell/ plug, onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Do not cover seeds, simply press into the soil. Light is needed for germination. Propagate or cover tray with clear plastic to maintain moisture and temperature. Ideal temp. 15-20°C. Germination takes 2-4 weeks approx. Once germinated admit air. When seedlings are large enough to handle transplant in clumps to a 1L pot. Plant out in summer after danger of frost has passed.
Growing
Prefers any soil which remains consistently moist but well drained. Prefers full or part sun. Allow 60-90cm spacing between plants.
Cultivation
Cut back to ground level in later winter or early spring, before new growth emerges. After pruning you may fertilise surrounding soil if desired. Propagate by seed, or by division in spring.
