Germination

Prior to sowing scarify or chip seed coating then soak seeds in water for 3-4 days. Change water daily. Sow indoors. Sow 25mm deep into moist compost or vermiculite. Propagate or place somewhere warm with constant temp. 20-25°C. Germination can take from several weeks to 12 months. Do not give up. Once seedlings are large enough to handle transplant to 8cm pots and grow on.

Growing

Ideal for the conservatory but worth trying outside. Prefers loam based compost with sheltered full sun. Water every 1-3 days. Fertilise once a month.

Cultivation

If container grown bring the plant inside over winter. Outdoor plants need protection. Wrap the trunk or cover whole plant with a blanket. Leaves are damages at 0°C but the plant will grow back from the root.
