Germination
Prior to sowing scarify or chip seed coating then soak seeds in water for 3-4 days. Change water daily. Sow indoors. Sow 25mm deep into moist compost or vermiculite. Propagate or place somewhere warm with constant temp. 20-25°C. Germination can take from several weeks to 12 months. Do not give up. Once seedlings are large enough to handle transplant to 8cm pots and grow on.
Growing
Requires heated glass min 10°C. Ideal for container planting allowing you to move the plant inside in winter but outside in full sun in spring/summer. Prefers loam based compost. Water every 1-3 days. Fertilise once a month.
Cultivation
If container grown bring the plant inside over winter. Outdoor plants need protection. Wrap the trunk or cover whole plant with a blanket. Leaves are damages at 0°C but the plant will grow back from the root.
