Salad Burnet

Germination

Direct sow in summer. Sow under glass in autumn, winter or spring. Under glass, best sown into modules as Salad Burnet does not like root disturbance. Sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of soil. Germination should be easy. Grow-on seedlings under glass until danger of frost has passed. Transplant carefully to final position. Directly, sow into prepared soil which has been raked to a fine tilth, just cover seed and keep moist until established.

Growing

Prefers a chalky soil in full or partial sun. Will grow well in any ordinary soil. Keep watered until established. Do not over-water. Once established requires little attention. The plant is evergreen.

Cultivation

Propagate by seed or via division of an established clump in spring or autumn. Cut back leaves regularly to provide new, fresh leaves. Remove flower-heads to ensure leaves have the best possible flavour. Leaves may be harvested year-round, take care to leave sufficient leaves on the plant for future growth and general plant health.
