Germination
Sow indoors. Sow onto moist well-drained seed compost. Just cover the seed with vermiculite or soil. Ideal temp. 20°C. Keep soil moist but not wet at all times. Germination takes 21-28 days but can be erratic even with ideal conditions. Transplant when large enough to handle to 8cm pots. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.
Growing
Prefers cool places in semi shade, ideally a deep soil. In full sun requires more moisture. In exposed areas may require staking.
Cultivation
Cut down stems once flowering is over. To maintain vigour divide plant every 2-3 years as soon as growth begins in spring(Mar-April). Large divisions can be replanted outside, smaller ones overwintered in a greenhouse for planting out the following spring.
