Germination
Sow indoors. Sow 10mm deep into seed compost in shallow trays. Propagate or place on a sunny windowsill. temp. 25°C. Pot on when plant is 5cm. Plant out after danger of frost has passed with 100cm spacing. Minimum 2 plants required for effective pollination.
Growing
When grown to 30cm the plant may flop, losing its neat upright shape. This is natural and helps to form high yielding lateral roots. Best on open ground rather than in pots. Will benefit from a high potash feed.
Cultivation
Ready to harvest as the husk begins to dry. The fruit is usually still green and any size between a walnut and a tomato. You can leave on the plant to fully ripen but the fruit may split. This will not affect its use.
