Germination
Easiest to sow into a cold frame in autumn. Prior to sowing soak seed for 24 hours. Drain seed and then sow into individual pots of moist but well-drained ericaceous compost. Cover the seed to its own depth with soil. Keep the soil moist but not wet. Natural winter cold should offer ideal conditions for the seed to germinate in spring as the weather warms. Grow on under glass for at least their first winter. Acclimatise and plant out the following year when danger of frost has passed. Can be sown at any time in a greenhouse, a cold period will improve germination but is not always required. If germination does not occur cold stratify. Place potted seeds into a fridge, ideal temp. 4°C for 3 months, then remove to warmth for germination.
Growing
Prefers a fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Prefers a hot summer. May be hardy in some regions with frost-free protection in winter. Can withstand temperatures to-15°C.Try to protect from cold, drying winds in winter.
Cultivation
Propagate by seed or root cuttings . Pruning group 1. Minimal pruning required. Only remove dead or congested branches to maintain a healthy framework. Prune when the plant is dormant in late winter or early spring.
