Germination
Sow indoors. Surface sow onto moist well-drained seed compost. Just cover the seed with soil. Light is needed for germination. Propagate. Ideal temp. 20-24°C. Germination takes 10-24 days. Transplant seedlings once large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed with 100cm spacing. Water regularly until established.
Growing
Prefers a well-drained, fertile soil in full sun. Can die back in heavy, poorly-drained soil.
Cultivation
Will self-seed freely. Deadhead if you do not want volunteer seedlings. Prune in mid-spring after danger of frost has passed. Cut back the previous years flowering stems to within 1-2 buds of the older woody framework. Also remove any thin, weak or dead growth. After pruning mulch and feed.
