Germination
Sow indoors. Surface sow onto moist well-drained seed compost and cover with 4mm of vermiculite. Ideal temp. 20°C. Germination takes 2-4 weeks. If germination does not occur cold stratify. Move to -4-+4°C for 4-6 weeks then return to warmth 5-12°C for germination. Transplant seedlings once large enough to handle to a 1L pot of gritty compost and grow on. Plant out in summer. Allow 5-7 plants per square metre.
Growing
Tolerant of a range of conditions but best in moisture retentive well-drained soil with full sun or part shade. Water well until established. Once established required little attention.
Cultivation
Cut back old growth in spring to 15cm before growth resumes. Will self-seed. After a few years the plant may develop a hollow centre, if so lift and divide in spring.
