Germination
Sow indoors. Surface sow onto moist well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with soil. Propagate 18-20°C. Germination takes 21-30 days approx. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out in late spring with 30cm spacing. Can be sown directly Apr-June. Sow 2mm deep, thin seedlings to 30cm spacing.
Growing
Prefers a poor-moderately fertile well-drained soil. Likes stony or chalky soil. Needs sun to flower well. Good drought resistance. Thrives in coastal gardens.
Cultivation
Deadhead to extend the flowering window. Will self-seed freely. In autumn cut the plant back to ground level. The stems can be composted. For cut flowers cut in the morning when the flowers are 80% open.
