Germination
Sow indoors at any time. Prior to sowing soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours. Place seeds in a freezer bag, with a little vermiculite if desired, tie loosely and pop in the fridge, ideal temp. 4°C for 4-6 weeks. Seeds must be damp at all times. Remove seeds and surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with a fine layer of soil or vermiculite. Water. Leave at room temp. Germination takes a few weeks. Seedlings should be placed in full sun and allowed to grow on for 2-3 years before planting out. Repot if required during this time in the dormant season.
Growing
Prefers any moist but well-drained soil in full or partial sun. Prefers a sheltered position. One of the few conifers which will coppice successfully.
Cultivation
No pruning required. Propagate via cuttings in the autumn, place in a sandy soil in a cold frame.
