Germination
Prior to sowing soak seeds for up to 24 hours. Sow under glass, a sunny windowsill is ideal. Sow into moist well-drained seed compost, sow with the pointed tip facing down. Do not cover the tops of the seeds. Usually germinates in 1-2 months at 20°C. Transplant seedlings once large enough to handle to individual pots. The plants have sparse roots and are best planted into their final position asap, 2-3 years approx. Offer protection for the first outdoor winter.
Growing
Prefers a moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil in an open site with shelter from cold, drying winds.
Cultivation
No pruning necessary. Removed diseased, damaged, congested or crossing shoots only. After pruning mulch and feed. May shed its lower branches.
