Germination

Sow directly. Prior to sowing prepare site. In summer cut or graze hard to create gaps of 50% bare soil. Rake if needed. Try to remove perennial weeds such as docks or thistles. Mix seed with a little sand and broadcast sow.

Growing

After sowing continue to mow or graze to keep grass short, 3-5cm. Stop mowing or grazing in April and leave until Jul-Aug.

Cultivation

Requires one hay type cut per year to maintain species richness. Use a scythe, petrol strimmer or tractor mower, cut to 5cm. Leave cut hay to dry and shed seed for 1-7 days then remove hay from the site.
