Germination

Sow indoors Jan-Apr. Surface sow onto moist well-drained seed compost just cover with soil. Ideal temp. +20°C. Germination takes up to 14 days, but can erratic and take longer. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to other trays with 5cm spacing and grow on in cooler conditions. Acclimatise and plant out once danger of frost has passed with 30cm spacing. Can be sown directly Apr-June. Press seeds into finely prepared, well-drained soil in a seed bed. Thin to 5cm spacing before moving to final position in autumn with 30cm spacing.

Growing

Prefers a moist but well-drained soil in partial sun.

Cultivation

Deadhead regularly to prolong the flowering window. Divide in spring or autumn or take softwood cuttings in early summer. Easily propagated by seed.
