Germination
Sow indoors in spring. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Do not cover seed, simply press seeds into the soil. Light is needed for germination. Keep moist. Place in a propagator or seal in a polythene bag to maintain humidity. Ideal temp. 15-24°C. Germination takes 2-3 weeks approx. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on under glass. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.
Growing
A half hardy perennial which is best grown as an annual in the UK. Prefers any well-drained soil in full sun. Can be container planted. Requires little attention.
Cultivation
If flower buds appear they may be removed as this plant is usually grown for its cool, silvery foliage. Usually grown as an annual, if so pull and compost at the end of the growing season. May survive a mild winter in a sheltered location. Propagate by seed or via cuttings.
