Germination

Sow indoors in spring. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of soil. Ideal temp. 15-18°C. Germination of most varieties takes 1-3 weeks approx. Some varieties included may take much longer. Transplant each seedling when large enough to handle, try not to disturb seed tray as other seeds may still be germinating. Allow seed tray to overwinter in a cold frame, you may find some additional seedlings will emerge the following spring. Acclimatise and move outside when danger of frost has passed.

Growing

Prefers any moist but well-drained soil in full or partial sun. Water well when the weather is dry. Tall varieties may need staking.

Cultivation

Deadhead regularly to prolong the flowering window. Pull and compost at the end of the growing season. Propagate by seed.
